Kanal Audytywny (PL)

Kanal Audytywny returned last year with "Neurofotoreceptoreplotyka jako magia bytu", a double album, produced by Spaso and L.u.c..

Here we can listen to some of the finest tunes delivered in Poland last year. Highly influenced by hip-hop and jazz, with guests such as Fokus (Paktofonika, Pokahontaz), Natalia Grosiak (Micromusic), Adam Baron, Agim (Oszibarack) and Michal Litwiniec (Kormorany, Carbido), this record takes Polish Hip-Hop a step forth.

K.A. are L.u.c., on vocals, lyrics, laptop and human beatbox, Spaso, on gramophone and laptop, Adam Lepka, on trombone, Darek Dżugan, on contrabass and Filip Danielak, on percussion.

In the opening track "Intro", one can already get the highlights of what is still to come. The sound, meanwhile, is hip-hop, with a scent of jazz. "Radiowa Piosenka" feat. Adam Baron and Natalia Grosiak is one of 2005 best songs. Unfortunately I cannot share it here with you. It's fresh and jazzy, it goes around trip-hop and comes back with some breakbeats.
On the second cd, we go further on the hip-hop sound.

Unfortunately some of the tracks cannot keep up with the same enthusiasm, freshness as those mentioned previously. If so, and if they'd all fit in one cd, this would be a 10 points out of 10 cd.

Kanal Audytywny are on tour now, promoting their latest record. You can still catch them on the following cities.

30.03 Katowice - Mega Club
04.04 Poznań - Piwnica 21
05.04 Koszalin - Kreślarnia
07-04 Zielona Góra - Klub Słodko Gorzka

You can find the album here.

LAO CHE - Creativity made in Poland (PL)

Lao Che might be one of Poland's most exciting bands live. This Polish band is on tour now, taking their magnificent 2005 release "Powstanie Warszawskie" or "Warsaw Rising" to a city near you.

I had the chance to see them live last Saturday, at Klub Studencki "Zaczek", in Krakow. This venue was crowded and everyone was waiting anxiously for this concert.

But, who are Lao Che? Lao Che are Mariusz Denst (Denat), Hubert Dobaczewski (Spięty), Michał Jastrzębski (Dimon), Rafał Borycki (Żubr), Filip Różański (Wieża), Jakub Pokorski (Krojc) and Maciek Dzierżanowski (Trocki). Their sound could be catalogued as a mixture of rock, death metal, fok music, but where you can find time for some more dancable tunes, or even mellow.

They started in 1999 and soon gathered an imense cult around them. With 2 records released so far, "Gusla" and "Powstanie Warszawskie", this band can be compared, in terms of creativity, to the likes of Mike Patton's Mr. Bungle.

Last year's concept album was dedicated to the Warsaw Rising. For those who do not know what the Warsaw Rising is, please check this site.

As the band describes it on their website "we should write music on this extraordinary time, time of human morality at war. Ferocity versus elation of young bravery, friendship and cooperation in extreme conditions, difficult to understand for us - people of present time. All we can do is to walk along the imagination path. It is like a broadcast and its main aim is to show that world through sounds. The set and arrangements are created according to historical facts of the Rising".

For those willing to discover more on Lao Che, check these samples from their latest record and from Gusla. Zrzuty can be downloaded here completely.

Music for your soul (PT)

March the 20th seems to be a wonderful day for Portuguese music.

Dead Combo are to release "Vol. 2- Quando a Alma Não é Pequena", their follow up to "Vol.1" on the very same day as X-Wife's newest record.

The record, which will be released by their own label, Dead & Company, features Paulo Furtado, Nuno Rafael, Joao Cardoso and Sergio Nascimento as guests.

As an extra now, the track "Paredes Ambience", to be found on the Carlos Paredes tribute cd Movimentos Perpétuos - Música para Carlos Paredes.
